Let’s have a moment of truth here – is there anybody who’s not looking forward to the end of 2020?

As we hit November, it’s time to think about the C-word…Christmas.

If you’re not a Christmas-lover like me (hey Google, what’s the opposite of a Grinch?!), then this thought may fill you with dread, fear or loathing.

But as a business owner, whether you like it or not, now is the time of year that you need to get your festive brain into gear, if only to answer these few business-critical questions:

1. Are you running any Christmas promotions?

If you’re running any kind of Christmas/New Year promotion, you need to be planning those promotions now to make the most of the timing. Particularly if you need anything printed, your window to be getting that done is NOW.

From another perspective, if you’re the type to send your clients Christmas gifts (this is a fantastic relationship-building idea, particularly if you’ve got an idea for a branded gift!), you also need to be looking at ordering these now. Why not consider buying from a regional or local business? You’ll put a smile on their face and spread the cheer well before Christmas.

2. Are you taking time off over Christmas?

Everyone needs a break…particularly after the year we’ve had. If December/January is usually a quiet time for your business, it’s time to put those arrangements together. Ensure you also plan how you’re going to tell your clients about your downtime.

Think about your email signature, social media posts and even signs for your office. These are all great opportunities to reinforce your brand messaging, and also to have a little bit of fun!

3. What projects do you want to be finished before the end of the year?

This is the kicker – we very often end up with a huge last-minute rush when clients want something done ‘before Christmas’. If you’re looking at website rewrites, capability statement refreshes, or end-of-year tender submissions, give us a heads-up now to make sure you don’t miss out.

There are still 8 weeks left in the year, so November is the perfect time to take stock and prepare yourself for a successful 2021!

P.S. In the name of practising what we preach:

  1. No Christmas promotions, but keep your eye out for a sneaky gift if you’re a Joyful client!
  2. We are OOO (out of office!) from 12 noon on Friday 18 December until 9am on Monday 4 January. But, if anything urgent happens over the Christmas period, we’re always on call to help existing clients (I’m a workaholic, I can’t help it!).
  3. I’m launching a new blog series (here’s Part 1) before the end of the year that will help you nail basic pieces of content so your business can put its best foot forward. Stay tuned!

If you don’t need a copywriter or words extraordinaire just yet, here are a few other options…
