What happens to the mining industry in the current climate, with COVID-19 breathing down our necks? And how can your business help?

I’ve already seen clients in events and tourism take a hit. I’m sure my remote-work-capable service-based business clients will be okay. But I’ve been pondering – what happens to the mining industry?

Our industry can’t just ‘work from home’ – they’re out there, away from family and friends for as long as their roster dictates, putting their trade or skill set to work to move natural resources from the ground to the market.

Whatever you think of that, it can’t be done remotely. Yes, some autonomous operation is possible, but we don’t have the technology to change a tyre or rebuild a tray without people.

Our resources industry can’t be stopped for too long either. Electricity demand is not going anywhere! But these aren’t times to panic – they’re times to think outside the box.

Small businesses are intuitively good at doing more with less.

And if your small business supplies the mining industry and can figure out a creative, clever way to keep work rolling and to keep people safe – you’ll be placed to ride out the next few months.

And, if you need help talking through it or communicating your offering to more than just your regular customers – give me a call. I’m working remotely already – so it’s business as usual!
